Music has been has been an important form of expression in our life, having no boundaries and guidelines. It has become a way to live life, express without speaking- a feeling. Hearing being a psychological process consisting of brain, ears, nervous system, heart, etc., Our music taste explains a lot about our thoughts, personality, choices, mood and our current mental and physical state. Be it any occasion, festival, emotion- there’s nothing which can’t be expressed in form of songs and music. It has become a form of communication, means to form a bond among one another, something which connects us humans.
The existence of music can be traced back to 40,000 years ago. From classic, to authentic, to modern day music, it has come a long way. And in the process changing the variations of musical instruments. The pitch, pace, technique, voice, chords, there are a lot of factors effecting and making music better. The love for music and songs, doesn’t have boundaries like age, caste, creed, monetary, etc., it’s for one and all.
To talk about the modern day songs, it tells a different story. From objectifying bodies, to availability to one and all, it has come a long way. Talking about human bodies, classifying and thinking it is normal, it has become a form of business and is ethically wrong. Music in the era of 20th century, was beautiful worldwide. Expressing everything, every feeling, every aspect of life, making everything beautiful was the goal.
Songs in 21st century has seen its doom. Some songs/music is good, expressing and soothing. But some on the other hand, is highly objectionable and objectifying, mainly for the females. Be it Bollywood or Hollywood, talking about female body, figure, shapes and sizes has become common. It’s like, people now-a-days only consider beauty on the outside and not on the inside. Clothes, body, gold-digging, makeup, everything is said to be what a women is.
And this is effecting the youth a lot. They’re thinking, as singing these songs, is no offence and is a compliment. Sometimes these songs are filled with sexual innuendos which is highly insulting and unethical. Now beauty is based on the curves you possess, and no longer the beauty in the eyes, small gestures like holding hands doesn’t matter, what matters is physical appearance, a trophy to show off. And not only females are objectified, men are too, making them something which they are not, creating rush, bullying, effecting mentally and causing unnecessary competition.
In the era of technology, where even children who are in mere nursery standard, know how to use cell-phones, have access to music. People now don’t understand the meaning of decent and everyone is just creating unnecessary drama and havoc. And this rise of internet users, has made the access easier and thus in the reach of people, in their fingertips within minutes.
To conclude, there’s no creativity left, remixing beautiful songs to something unnecessary is the trend. Previously there were music of every kind example being- happiness, sadness, poetic, on beauty, confidence, for pets etc., now there’s just happiness or sadness or objectifying some gender. The depth is decreasing, meaning and purpose is fading. So all we can try is save music, songs and singers who actually deserves respect and recognition and try limiting the songs creating negative impact on us some or the other way.
