Empathy is a factor, which we are not taught in our school days. Understanding everyone around you is very important. Communication, is the most essential skill set for every individual who wants to survive well with his peers. Just because you are working full time, does not give you the liberty to be strict with others. You have to be polite and understand their situation also.
If people approach you with a problem. Most probably they are looking out for a solution from you. Yes, you may not be physically available with them but then that does not mean you should not understand other’s priorities and problems. Everyone has their own set of choices and decisions, that also includes living life for yourself. One of the most important reason why I have written this post is specifically for those women, who feel that it is mandatory for their parents or in-laws to take care of their children.
Remember, your parents or in-laws, have had their own children and raised their own children. You and your husband decided to have children, so they are primarily your responsibility. Do not enter into a clash with your elders because they refuse to look after your children. Just the way you have made your choice of having a career or having a child, they have also made a choice of not being completely responsible for upbringing of their grandchildren.
This is a tricky situation I know. Not everyone can afford a maid or additional help and sometimes, you may have to be dependent on the family members for help as you need to work due to financial issues. In such a case, always look out an opportunity, that will allow you to work from home or will help you to have flexible timings. If you have little support then the best thing to do is to start something on your own. You can start with reselling things online, Freelancing, Home tutions for professional courses, online teaching, recruiting, Beauty and Wellness, the list is endless if you have the determination to work.
I have always been a supporter of women’s financial freedom and one of the best ways to go ahead with the same is to start working when you are ready.
