COVID 19 AND UNEMPLOYMENT CRISIS IN INDIA AND WORLD
Amongst all issues which India is facing, the unemployment problem has been at the forefront. India went under lockdown in March 2020 to combat the risk of Coronavirus. Whereas the lockdown was successful, the lengthy closure of the workplaces resulted in the layoff of thousands of workers. According to a research by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India’s unemployment rate unexpectedly surged to 24 percent in April 2020, before dropping to 9.1 percent in December 2020 to 6% in January 2021. Throughout the global COVID-19 shutdown, an estimated 90 lakh individuals lost their employment as a result of all this. Certainly, when the office is up and running, this rate would drop. This bleak picture, though, will linger for at minimum a year. Although the proportion of jobless individuals has reduced throughout time, India’s unemployment situation looks unresolved.
The scenario is similar in many other nations. In the United States, 30 million individuals have claimed for jobless benefits. There seems to be a 14.7 percent unemployment rate there. Unemployment numbers in the United Kingdom have increased by 70%.
