India is one of the fastest growing economy in the world same shows the data as for 1990 our size of G.D.P was just 300billion dollar and of 2020 our G.D.P is 2.5 trillion dollar which is a sharp and tremendous growth India has achieved and further as of 2025 our goal is to reach 5 trillion dollar economy which means we just want to double our size of G.D.P. ,These number are hard to achieve and same is said by the economist but with huge population in working age things will be manageable. This boom in economy started to happen after the great LPG ( Liberalization,Privatization,Globalization) which was result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, which was India’s major trading partner, and the Gulf war , which caused a spike in oil prices, resulted in a major balance-of-payments crisis for India, which found itself facing the prospect of defaulting on its loans.[ India asked for a $1.8 billion bailout loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which in return demanded de-regulation.
These policy acted in favor of India and India’s economy started to grow. As a resultant metropolitan started to grow like Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata as jobs also started to popup in these cities and population standard of living increased in these cities people from rural areas started to come to cities. The reason for urbanization were many like industrial revolution , post 1990 growth of private sector, Infrastructure facilities in the urban areas, Expansion in government services and many developmental projects like highway construction and dam building erased many villages from the map. Before 1990 India was represented as agrarian country which shifted rapidly to service providing, manufacture hub and I.T Job hub of Asia. As a result farming become less profitable and even its contribution towards economy slumped which further increased urbanization.
India’s rapid urbanization comes with its problem as India’s urbanization rate is 2.07percentage which is quite low as compared to other countries but sheer number of 300 million person in India live in city which has lead to development of slum, high housing rates , decrease in standard of living , overcrowded cities. many people are forced to live in unsafe conditions, such as illegal buildings. Water lines, roads and electricity are lacking in quality, resulting in a decline in living standards. It is also contributing to the issues presented by pollution. Urbanization also results in a disparity in the market, owing to the large demands of the growing population and the primary sector struggling to cope. As these problem have come to face many state government and citys municipal corporation have come with joint plan to develop and expand cities and further building newer part of the city sustainably and more resilient to future some plans are in works and some are already implemented as urbanization is India is not going to stop cities are making themself more habitable and sustainable for future prospectus.
