As children we’re all told to forget about the pain that hurts us. After a fall on the ground, we tell children to brush it off and hurt the ground in return, in a childish gimmick. Why don’t we teach any other way to children? Why can’t we tell them that it’s okay to cry and realise the cause of their pain. And be careful the next time.
Crying, for example, is frowned upon in the society. People who cry are assumed to be less powerful and perceived to be less tolerant to the world. We find ourselves assuming that this person has a hard time dealing with this inane world. This person must buck up and become ‘strong’, we think. In the garb of becoming what we call ‘strong‘, we forget that we’re addressing wrong set of feelings about ignorance.
Sensitivity towards pain, emotions and truth is difficult to apprehend. Seeing someone graple with pain actually must hurt us. It must make us feel how we have failed as a humanity. In this, we don’t become weak. Ethical decisions can be made better considering a person’s emotional quotient.
Logic and emotions are not far from each other. They are flip sides of a coin but can also exist simultaneously. Vulnerability is something that we only show to people we consider close enough. Being vulnerable takes strength. Being hostile takes impulse, not well thought emotions. Being angry brings characters of sudden reflexes without much thinking, but trying to mend ways requires protractive efforts.
We as humans are complicated as we make it. Things are quite simple if we look at it with a wise heart. And wisdom comes only from being experienced. We must not label people as they seem to be. There’s more to their story. There’s more to someone who cries or someone who keeps it all inside and implodes.
All personalities have their own unique characteristics. We must respect each other and not question their way of handling emotions and situations.
