There is stark difference between talent and experience, so much so that the two cannot be compared and they are nothing alike in my opinion. Which one is more important depends on the job occupation. There are some job occupations who value experience more than others. Let’s go over the main difference.
Experience is someone who has been trained, and has knowledge about a particular subject that is based on their life experiences. This is also known as wisdom, and wisdom can only be gained through experience. There are some things you can only learn by making mistakes over the period of many years, and you can not learn to make the same mistakes again. Someone who lacks experience has to discover these mistakes own their own and learn from them, and therefore there is a big difference between an experienced and inexperienced worker. It is the belief that through hard work and perseverance, you can teach yourself to be good at something despite lacking talent or general intelligence.
Talent on the other hand, is an innate ability which can not be taught. Talent is often viewed as a skill that you were destined for or that you were born with choosing that you have been put into a position of power in your particular. This is influenced by genetics such as IQ, brain and strength, and it is influenced by your social class and wealth.
The most important part about talent is the recognition that not every one is cut out for every thing. It was popular recently to tell children they can be anything they want to be when they grow up, perhaps that is giving them bad advice. Some people have natural talent such as singing, dancing, writing, art, cooking and so on.
There are many experienced workers who have no talent what so ever for the trade they have chosen, but some how through they managed to last their entire career without getting fired or laid off on the other hand there are very talented people out there who never discover their talent because they don’t get chance.
I may have a bias, but I don’t give any extra amount of respect to those who have experience. I treat every one equal respect regardless of who they are or what they have done.
I believe we would be a better society if we stuck to those old fashioned values.
