Why I decided to pursue law?

I was pursuing a career as a Company Secretary when I decided to change my field. I was also interested in helping people, But I found that I wanted to be able to help people in more of an advocacy role than I could as a Company Secretary. Law seemed to be a good fit. I took a bit of a leap of faith, left graduate school, and went to law school. Changing my field wasn’t an easy decision. I was already 25 years old, reached in my finals of CS professional program and I was also working in a  PCS firm and getting work exposure since last 3 years. I had already completed my internship from a renounced PCS Firms and had learned the work areas of a Company Secretary.

I was just one level away from becoming a CS. So what changed? While I was working as an intern in my PCS Firm, I had gained some experience in legal matters. I got an opportunity to gain some exposure in legal field. Never thought that small opportunity would play such a huge role in changing my career. It took me 2 years to decide whether changing careers now would be a wise decision or not. There were many questions because of which I constantly self doubted my self. Being 1st generation lawyer, having no knowledge about this field and getting into one was a difficult task. Somehow I got the courage of quitting the CS field and I enrolled myself into Law. Worked hard for the entrance exam and got my favorite college.

The decision turned out to be a great choice. Not only have I found a career that allows me to be an advocate, I have found a career that allows me to constantly learn and grow. In my legal career, I want to primarily represented companies. So, not only have I needed to understand the law, I’ve needed to understand my client’s business. If you want a career that allows for lifelong learning, law is a good one. Things that I learned that its never too late to start a new beginning, have the courage to welcome new opportunities and most important believe in yourself.
