Before I begin with this blog, I want to say that all women are beautiful, talented and hardworking. We may call ourselves progressive, modern and advance but the reality is women have always been objectified in one or the other way. The age of 24 to 35 is crucial for every individual as this is the time period when one has to financially settle down as well as get married and have children. Though the trends are changing these days and age limits have been pushed off by both young men and women. Though the terms trophy wife and Corporate Wife may seem controversial and many may even refuse to accept that these concepts exist in our society.
Trophy Wife
A Trophy Wife is basically a young, beautiful woman, who is married to someone who has millions or rupees and can provide her and spoil her with every luxury in the world. The basic duty of a trophy wife is to accompany her husband looking the best in her attire. Gossip with other Trophy wives at a party and leave a long lasting impression with her looks and beauty no brains needed. A trophy wife regularly receives her quota of expensive gifts, which is her fees of keeping her head out of her husband’s business.
A trophy wife is something that was always in demand in our Indian Society, one can see the matrimonial column of any newspaper. The advertisement for a bride will always use the terms “Good Looking, Beautiful, Traditional Girl“. She is usually identified in the society as Mrs. XYZ and would be one of the most envied women in the society. The society may sometimes be able to see only her beauty and diamonds but may not attempt to look behind her beautiful veil inside her deep lonely heart.
Corporate Wife
A Corporate Wife on the other hand is a woman, whom the man marries for her qualifications or position in a company. Such wife is expected to accompany her husband to all Corporate Events. Her basic role is to interact with his business colleagues and get more business for him. They work more as a team. Not necessary the husband and wife may be in same profession, they can be in different professions also.
Corporate Wives also have their own life, career and different set of friends and colleagues to hang out with due to which she may not be seen that frequently with her husband as she is expected to. Whist, both the partners respect each other’s choices, the society usually ends up gossiping about her absence because of her business trip. She is identified in the society mainly with her position at her job. Women may or may not be that friendly with her because when in a group she discusses more about corporate and Men may pretend to be polite and respectful but internally hate her because she is more successful than them.
Self Made Woman
A Self Made Woman is a woman who slogs like an ass to reach the top, sometimes by the time she reaches the top she may have also outgrown the age to settle down and have children. A lot of times such women find it difficult to find partners, who respect their independence and therefore may end up being single. A Self made woman is usually woman who cannot be impressed with either money or position her needs are something else, which men till date do not understand. Only in the rarest of the rare cases a Self made woman enters into a matrimony. Even if she does, she feels alone as her independence is often mistaken. She is identified by her name and achievements. People may love her, hate her but they cannot ignore her. Everyone has just one thought when they see her… I wish I had chased my dreams like her..everybody just ignores her struggles to fullfill her dreams.
These are the types of the women that the society has stereotyped but in short, all have their own duties and responsibilities, which are huge. Everybody is battling their own problems and by stereotyping and putting them into groups, we are just adding more to their woes.
As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side. We can easily judge others for who they are. But have we ever had empathy for another human being. We never categorise or judge men in the same way we judge a woman.
