My journey with PCOD

I had irregular Periods, from almost few years since I got my first period. Periods were always a painful affair then, but skipping school was not an option. I would end up vomiting the entire day once I reached home.

This continued for the next few years. I never consumed any painkillers for the pain. I approached doctors, but never took any sonography or medication because they felt that I was too young to undergo treatment for the same.

I was about 23 or 24, when the doctors felt that it was the right age to go for any treatment if required. The doctor sent me for a sonography and then I was detected of having PCOD. The term was something new and fancy and I soon dived into Google Baba.

PCOD or  Polycystic Ovary Disease, is a kind of hormonal disorder that affects one in 10 women. It refers to a condition when a woman has a number of small cysts in the ovaries. Besides unpredictable hormonal behaviour, this condition can trigger diabetes, infertility, acne and excessive hair growth. No amount of workout helps us in reducing weight.

PCOD may not be something that is seen directly or can be realised or understood by someone like, fever, cough or cold. It is a crazy hormonal imbalance, which eats you up internally with the society poking at you and commenting on you at every step.

Why are you so heavy, why cannot you do some workout, says every person who meets you for the first time. As If I ate away entire food of their refridgerator and starved them.

Parlour Didi also makes your life hell…Why is your skin always dull, why don’t you use this cream, your skin is so dark, you have too much growth on your upperlip? I mean I literally stopped going to the Salon, after this torture and would only go for doing my eye brows once in a while. Now thanks to lockdown, I have managed to do that also. There are other millions of reasons, why I do not go to the parlour, these are few listed.

The problem is nobody talks about these problems openly in our society.

I mean when talking about Periods itself is a taboo. How can we expect people to talk about PCOD and PCOS in our society. A lot of urban women face PCOD because of our hectic lifestyle, especially working women. Somehow, we are all a part of this Rat race, where we are dying to prove ourselves every minute, to whom ? God Alone Knows.

The only way in which we can avoid any lifestyle related diseases is we work together. We need to work together and more efficiently, so that we can get rid of Lifestyle Diseases, which we unknowingly let into our lives.

I am doing a Campaign called #WorkSmart, which basically deals with avoiding lifestyle diseases like PCOD by working smart.

I am interviewing a few people, to check how much awareness, they have about PCOD.

Through this campaign, I am not asking that women working in corporates need to be sent home early. I am simply saying that men and women, working in Corporates, need to be sent home early without completing their jobs. I am just saying that men and women need to work more effeciently, so that we are able to wind up our day earlier. Technically speaking, it is of no use, women reaching home early and men reaching home late, because the kitchen closes only when the last person has their meal at home.

It may seem a simple but illogical change at present, but together if we can bring this change, which is quiet possible in our society. It will bring a huge change in all of our lives.
