Munira Soni, Work Smart

So here is my seventh supporter for the WorkSmart Campaign. Let us know her thoughts on the same.

Munira Soni,31, Counselling Psychologist and founder of SOHAMNA INTERNATIONAL from Hongkong

What is your official office hours?

Since I work as a freelancer I don’t have fixed hours, but I space out my work and personal commitments, so that both don’t clash or overlap my other responsibilities.

How many hours do you spend at Work?

Roughly 5-7 hours in a day, sometimes even 12-15 hrs depending on the work load and requirements.

When did you first hear about Periods and from whom?

My mother when she educated me about what period is and how to handle, what needs to be done if I get my first menses away from home. Because of PCOD my first cycle was at the age 15. So I had all information from my classmates and my mother.

What do you know about PCOD?

Polycystic ovarian disorder is a hormonal disorder. Follicles are sacs within the ovaries that contain eggs. Normally, one or more eggs are released during each menstrual cycle. This is called ovulation.the eggs in these follicles do not mature and are not released from the ovaries. Instead, they can form very small cysts in the ovary, hence the name polycystic ovaries.

Is PCOD treatable ?

Absolutely yes. However it depends from person to person and case to case. I have been able to reverse it with lifestyle changes, clean eating habbits and no medication.

Are women with PCOD unable to conceive ?

It’s a myth which is fed to us through incorrect information. I was under medication for 10 years to treat my PCOD, because my doctor told me that you will not conceive if you don’t medicate yourself and I was under the fear of infertility. I took continuous medication, to conceive my first child. Soon with constant research and following many health coaches, nutritionist who vouched for reversing PCOD without any medication. That is when my transformation journey started.

I worked on my lifestyle, eating habits, engaged in yoga, walking, cycling which resulted in healthy fat loss, and working on my overall health which resulted in reversing my PCOD and I was able to conceive my second born daughter without any medication or ovulation tablets. Also my pregnancy was much different experience as compared to my first one.

What is your idea of Work Smart ?

Work smart to me is increasing ones productivity or getting more things done in lesser time, after assessing ones skill set, and analysing strengths and weaknesses, because #smartwork is more of mental abilities. Since the past few years, I’m working from home and CO managing my own brand, hence smart works plays an important role in my life, where I have to juggle between work, parenting and household chores. I prioritize my task and multi task everyday.

Although this is smart work, I consider it extremely hard. Hence, Planning requires an immense understanding of the resources in hand – therefore there is hard work involved. I work smart and I do so for long hours. Consistency is the sign of a hard worker and I aim to work smart consistently.

The idea behind this campaign is not to ask the Corporates to give women, less stress job or to allow them to go home.

Seriously, women going home earlier than men, would really not bring a bigger change in their lifestyle, because the kitchen closes only when the last person goes to sleep.

The idea behind this campaign is to check, how much does our society and its members know about Menstruation and different complications that arise along with the same, such as PCOD.

The reason, why I am doing this campaign is to make people aware, how their lifestyle is affecting their health and also to get them talk about a taboo subject like Periods.

Why did I choose something like PCOD, well for the following reasons:

  1. Talking about menstruation or periods even today is a taboo in our society.
  2. We barely have any information available with us regarding PCOD or PCOS, which is today affecting a lot of women in our society.
  3. Unlike Diabetis and Blood Pressure, PCOD barely shows any symptoms externally, so we seldom know if anybody is suffering from the same.
  4. PCOD is caused due to hormonal fluctuation and also has a direct impact on the mental health of the person.
  5. Having suffered from PCOD for years, I feel it is important to talk about the same openly in our society.

Our lifestyle has effect on our health but humanly it is impossible for me alone to cover all the issues.

Men and Women co-exist in our society. It is next to imposible to determine who is superior and who is inferior. But one thing that we need to remember is , if we do not work together, without understanding each other, we cannot solve our own individual problems.

For the purpose of the same, I will be interviewing a few people online, who are a part of our society to share their view points and knowledge about Periods and PCOD. If you wish to be a part of this conversation, then please do email me at adv.aishwaryasandeep@gmail.com or send me a message on my facebook account .
