YouTube – The closest to a Time Machine that we have…

Its 11.30 pm on a Tuesday Night. As usual I am working after my kids have slept. Listening to some music starting with my usual playlist and now hopping back to the BackStreet Boys. Listening to one of my all time favourite Boy Band brought back some lovely days of my teenage days. I love reading to the comments below a particular video, wherein somebody had written

“Youtube is the closest that we have to a Time Machine Today.”

When YouTube was introduced, we had to access it on our browsers. The Broadband was a luxury then and Data had to be used wisely as it was expensive. Around 2014, when Internet was available in more economical rate, I started enjoying the good music and most of them were recent hits, along with a few webseries. It was during this time, that Slowly and steadily, the content which was older was available on YouTube. I started searching for TV shows, which ruled the Indian Television during the 90’s and enjoyed the beautiful nostalgic memories.

Today YouTube, which is the second most used Social Media Platform has around 2.3 billion active users. YouTube is available in more than 100 countries and has been localised in more than 80 Countries. Around 400 hours of videos are uploaded on Youtube every minute. The most popular searched topic on Youtube is ofcourse Music undoubtedly.

A popular platform, that connects the world with memories from their good old days. Watching Doordarshan shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Yeh jo hai Zindagi and Wagle Ki Duniya, brought back those good old school days, when humour was simple and not offensive. The production then was not standard unlike today, where standard lighting is used in day and evening scenes. Unlike other played OTT Platforms, where you are able to see the content, only which they want to show you. You Tube with its larger database and simple uploading policy, the amount of content that is available is vast. It will take another few decades for other OTT platforms to reach the status of YouTube that we have today.

The reason why YouTube is the closest to a time machine is because, with its amazing data collection, takes us back to almost every memory that we have. The best part that I like about YouTube compared to other OTT Apps are the Comment Sections. Sometimes, we just happen to meet so many people, who are also a part of similar journey or refreshing their memories. Trust me along with the videos, people meeting online and refreshing their good old days, is one of the best parts about listening to music on YouTube, while other Platforms have just started to introduce Watch Party with your friends.

One of the best part about YouTube is that it is practically free for its users, unless you wish to subscribe to YouTube Red. Compared to other OTT platforms, which charges a minimum subscription fees from its user. A short cut, to watch my favourite videos to come back to my favourite time and recreate my memories.

By the way, there are my favourite songs, which brought back memories of the 90’s for me.

Everybody by Backstreet Boys –

I am sure all the 90’s kids loved this song at one point of their life. I was in my teenage or Pre teen, when this song was released. Nick Carter, was one of my first crushes. Listening to this song, brought back my school days of watching VJ Nikil on MTV Select, where a user could call and request for their favorite songs. I would just pray for someone to request for this song. During those times, i.e. pre You-Tube era. MTV or Music Cassesstes were the only sources of Music 24*7.

Hereunder is the second video, which suddenly popped up in my mind and took me down this journey of 90’s English Pop Music. I wasn’t fond of this song then but now a days, it is one of my favourite songs.

This song definitely brought back tons of memories. I was in my school when this song was released. During those days it was just another peppy song, which I enjoyed listening to . Fast Forward to college days, one fine day I was sitting with my Girl gang and listening to this song and realised yeh…that is the list of all the qualities that we are looking for in our Boyfriends/ Partners/future husbands. Ah the days of Day Dreaming and not knowing the reality of life.

I do love Bollywood songs also. One of my all time favourite Movie is Jab We Met. I know it is not something that you would expect me to like. But the only reason, why I love this movie is because, it taught me the biggest lesson of my life. To face my fears. I wish I could just fall in love with myself, the way Geet is in love with herself. Yes, she took one decision in her life and it did had bad repercussions but then she was responsible for the same.

Apart from that this song is shot in Rohtang Pass and Manali one of my two most favourite places, where I had visited with my family. The scenes also bring back my memory of that wonderful trip that I had with them.

So here was my short journey of going back on Time Machine with YouTube. The list of my Favourite music is endless.
